macOS – Quick guide
File Storage
On TUNI Mac workstations, files should generally be saved to OneDrive or a network drive to ensure they are secure and backed up. The computer's local hard drive is not backed up.
Read more about storage solutions on the guide page macOS – Storage and backups.
Software Installation
Essential tools (such as the Office programs and Teams) are pre-installed on the workstation.
If you need additional software, first check if it's available from the Intelligent Hub (found in the Apps menu). It is the primary place to download secure and licensed software without separate credentials. Paid software must always be ordered via the Service Portal.
Read more about installing software on the guide page Software installation self service.
Network Connections
Laptops automatically connect to the TUNI-STAFF wireless network on campus. This network allows access to network drives and other internal services. More information is available on the Wireless network TUNI-STAFF page.
TUNI VPN
You can turn on the VPN by clicking the icon in the menu bar and selecting "Connect TUNI VPN Managed".
TUNI VPN allows you to use network drives and the Intelligent Hub from outside the campus. For more information is available on the Remote Access and VPN page.
Printing
Mac workstations come with a pre-installed print queue named SecurePrint, which sends your print jobs to the university’s printing service. You can release your print job from any printer within the university community. More information is available on the Printing, copying and scanning page.
Screen Lock and Power Management
Power saving and screen lock settings are enabled by default on managed macOS workstations and can be adjusted by the user.
