My name is Thao and I come from Vietnam. During my BSc studies, my major was Communications Engineering and minor Industrial Management.

After completing my Bachelor’s degree, I decided to continue my studies at Tampere University by pursuing a Master’s in Wireless Communications and RF Systems. I really enjoyed my undergraduate experience and wanted to deepen my knowledge in this field. The programme allows me to build on what I learned during my bachelor’s and explore advanced topics.

What were the highlights during your BSc studies?

I took part in many hands-on courses, research training, and worked part-time as a teaching assistant, which were valuable experiences that helped me grow both academically and personally.

But the highlight of my BSc studies wasn’t just about homework or studying. Some of my most unforgettable memories were made with the people I met, the places I visited, and the new things I got to try: living on my own for the first time, walking until my feet begged for mercy, chasing the Aurora, taking my first solo trip, going on a “solo date”,... many more.

All of this counts as learning, all the chaos, the happiness, homesick everything in between. And here - Tampere University, I learn a lot.

How do you like living in Tampere?

Overall, I really enjoy living in Tampere. As an introvert, I love my room: spending time there eating good food, watching movies, and reading mangas makes me really happy. But living here has also opened me up to new experiences outside. I never thought I’d enjoy walks in the woods or around lakes, or waking up early for sunrises and sunsets, but Tampere’s nature makes it so easy.

Besides nature, Tampere University and the city offer so many events for students that life was never boring. There’s always something happening, from cultural festivals to student parties.

Who would you recommend this programme to?

I would recommend this programme to anyone who is curious and interested in science, even if you're unsure about what career to pursue. The wide range of courses and flexible curriculum let you explore different fields, helping you discover what truly excites you without any limitations. It’s also perfect for someone who enjoys a mix of nature and city life, as Tampere offers both beautiful outdoor spaces and a lively urban environment.
