Tampere University
Hey there! My name is Isuru Pitawala (but everyone calls me Pitta) and I'm currently studying at Tampere University for my master's degree in Sustainable Architecture.

How long have you been in Tampere and what brought you here?

I have been in Tampere for close to 2 months now. I came to Tampere to study for my masters in Sustainable Architecture.

What subject(s) do you study and what made you choose them?

I study sustainable architecture. I chose architecture since it has been a long-time passion of mine to study in a field that combines both science and art, since I find both fields highly fascinating.

What do you like most about Tampere and Finland? What has been the most suprising or different thing about living here?

Its a very clean and quiet country. The most surprising thing is definitely how cold it can get (and I've been told its not even cold yet), me myself being from a tropical country.

What are your hobbies in Tampere? Have you tried out any new hobbies since coming here?

I have joined the anime club, play badminton with my friends and also frequently go to the gym.

What kind of student activities have you participated in?

A few orientation events organized by the department as well as different guilds such as INTO. Also visiting the city tour and exhibitions.

What would you say to someone who's trying to decide whether Tampere is the right place to come to study and live?

Moving to Tampere is undoubtedly the best decision of my life, and I am forever grateful that my life choices have led me to be here at this point in my life. Pretty sure you would feel the same if you moved here too.

What is your favourite thing about the student culture in Finland?

How laid back the studies are while getting so much done at the same time! Its a refreshing feeling where students are treated as adults who can make their own decisions instead of trying to force submissions on them week after week.
