Intermediate Studies in Power Electronics and Electromechanics as Free Choice Studies, At least 20 cr
- Description
- Content
Power electronics are used in the conversion of electrical energy. Electromechanics is needed for converting mechanical energy into electricity, and vice versa. These devices are being increasingly used in power systems and transportation. Successful design of power electronic and electromechanical devices requires good understanding of fundamental concepts of electrical engineering as well as the ability to apply knowledge from difference discplines, like control engineering, electronics and electric power engineering.
This study module provides the basic knowledge on the operation of power electronic devices, their utilization in power electronic systems as well as their relevant control methods. The complementary courses provide the fundamentals on electric machines, electricity distribution and renewable energy production systems, in which power electronics devices are applied.
It is also possible to take the module as a minor with 20 credits of courses by taking all the compulsory courses and one of the complementary courses.
After completing the studies, the student
will be able to recognize the possibilities and limitations of power electronics and electromechanics in different applications.
will know the relevant terminology related to the fields in question, the operating principles of power electronic devices as well as the operation of the most utilized power electronic converters.
