Basic Studies in German Language, Open University Studies, 25 cr

Objectives

Upon completion of basic studies in German, you will:

  • be able to take responsibility for your learning and your actions and the consequences thereof,
  • know the principles of teamwork and have the ability to work as part of a team,
  • have the ability to utilise information and communications technology while working towards your degree, for example, to collect information and navigate digital learning environments,
  • understand the importance of giving and receiving feedback in supporting your learning,
  • be able to communicate in German in a variety of spoken and written contexts,
  • be familiar with grammatical and linguistic terminology,
  • have the ability to analyse the structure of the German language and be familiar with related terms and concepts,
  • be able to analyse the meanings conveyed through language and the use of language in different types of texts and communicative contexts,
  • be familiar with and have the ability to describe major historical and cultural events in German-speaking countries,
  • be familiar with major works of literature produced in German-speaking countries and have the ability to describe and compare them.
