Alexander the Great (356–323 BC) is one of those rare historical figures who has fascinated a legion of writers and artists in both the past and the present. In this course we will analyze how Alexander’s mythical figure has fascinated and been used in different periods of history. Opinions about him have been as varied as those who have told his story, which has been told and retold in written and oral narratives, visual presentations, paintings, sculptures, and, of course, in more recent times, comics, songs and movies.
