Learning outcomes

The objective of doctoral education is that students:

  1. become well-versed in their own field of research and its societal significance;
  2. gain the knowledge and skills required to apply scientific research methods independently and critically and produce new scientific knowledge;
  3. become conversant with the developments, basic problems and research methods in their own field of research and related fields; and
  4. gain such knowledge of the general theory of science and of other disciplines related to their own field of research as to enable the students to follow developments in them;
  5. gain the necessary communication and language skills and other competencies to pursue challenging professional careers and international collaboration.
  6. have the knowledge of appropriate research methodologies and their practical application
  7. demonstrate a knowledge of health and safety procedures and their application in his/her research environment
  8. understand and apply the relevant guidelines for the ethical conduct of research involving people, human tissue and animals
Content description

The doctoral programme in Biomedical Sciences and Engineering educates top experts who understand the multidisciplinary field of engineering and biosciences. The programme arranges high-quality doctoral education within the research fields of biomaterials, biomeasurements, biosensors and biorobotics, biomedical imaging, personal health techniqnologies, experimental and computational biosciences and cell technology and tissue engineering. The doctoral programme encourages for internationalization and it offers an interdisciplinary research environment. The programme facilitates the graduates with the ability to work either in expert tasks in industry or pursue an academic research career.

The programme offers the possibility to complete the postgraduate degrees of Doctor of Science (Tech), Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Licentiate of Science (Tech). The research field of studies is Biomedical Sciences and Engineering.
