Cognitive neuroscience I, 5 cr

The course will focus on the basics of cognitive psychology and cognitive neuroscience, especially on the information processing related to perception, attention, and memory. The course will deal with the most typical methods of investigation in these fields, the main neuroanatomical structures, and how the brain is involved in the processing of sensory information, motor control, and orienting of attention.

after the course, the students are familiar with the basic terminology of cognitive psychology and cognitive neuroscience. They can characterise information processing mechanisms and the most typical methods of investigation related to perception, attention, and memory. The students can name the main neuroanatomical structures and describe the main neurophysiological processes. The students are familiar with the most typical research methods and their functional principles in the field of cognitive neuroscience. The students can describe how the brain is involved in the processing of sensory information, motor control, and orienting of attention.
