This ON-CAMPUS course aims to provide a systematic overview of Arctic international politics and governance and examine some key issues in the Arctic. After introducing you to the Arctic region and Arctic governance, we will explore most of the following topics together: Arctic actors in the Arctic, non-Arctic actors in the Arctic, Arctic resources and the quest for them, Arctic shipping, and great power competition in the Arctic. We will have lessons on 12 January, 26 January, 7 February, 23 February, 9 March, and 16 March. Students will be requested to submit a one-page paper outline in mid-February, and individual meetings to discuss the paper outlines will be scheduled afterwards. The final grade will be decided by the final paper and the individual or group presentation.
