Uses of the Past in Foreign Policy-Making: the Eastern European Context, Lectures

The students will explore the manifold ways of how political actors shape foreign policy through references to past events. By taking examples from Eastern European countries, we will discuss a number of mechanisms that shed light on the link between memory practices and foreign policy in a complex and reciprocal way and analyze the concepts of identity, narratives, security, trauma and transitional justice.
