Core content
- The basic concepts related to epitaxy, thin-film deposition, and processing technologies of semiconductor materials
- The concepts describing the operation of most common optoelectronic devices, e.g. photodiodes, LEDs, semiconductor lasers, solar cells, modulators
- Measurement principles for assessing the operation of optoelectronic devices.
Complementary knowledge
- General knowledge on equipment used in fabrication
- Characteristics of optoelectronic devices and their relevance for applications
- Use of characterization set-ups.
Specialist knowledge
- Understanding of interplay between fabrication parameters and the properties of devices and heterostructures
- Understanding the relation between material properties, device architecture and device performance
- Knowledge concerning selection of instrumentation and building specific set-ups for device characterization.
