Core content
  • The basic concepts related to epitaxy, thin-film deposition, and processing technologies of semiconductor materials
  • The concepts describing the operation of most common optoelectronic devices, e.g. photodiodes, LEDs, semiconductor lasers, solar cells, modulators
  • Measurement principles for assessing the operation of optoelectronic devices.
Complementary knowledge
  • General knowledge on equipment used in fabrication
  • Characteristics of optoelectronic devices and their relevance for applications
  • Use of characterization set-ups.
Specialist knowledge
  • Understanding of interplay between fabrication parameters and the properties of devices and heterostructures
  • Understanding the relation between material properties, device architecture and device performance
  • Knowledge concerning selection of instrumentation and building specific set-ups for device characterization.
