The course examines what kinds of ethical principles should guide data collection and management, scientific reasoning, social practices of scientific communities, management of research groups, the treatment of animal and human subjects in research, and the relation between the researcher and the public. The importance of the researcher’s responsibility is clarified, and the objectivity of scientific knowledge and the role of values in research are discussed.


Schedule:

A lecture (to all participants) including guidelines for the seminars and groups (2 h)
Seminars in smaller groups (12 h)
- 3 x 4 hours or 2 x 6 hours

Completing the Course:

1. Pre-course assignment (1-2 pages)

2. Active participation in the seminar sessions

3. Presentation (15-20 mins.) in a seminar group. 2-3 participants present together.
