This course deals with the implications of linguistic gender in language, and how the grammatical features and the expression of gender play a role in different languages. In addition, it delves into the waves of feminism and their implication for research and the study of sexism in Language. Moreover, participants become familiar with the sexist features in different languages (English, Finnish, Russian, Nordic Languages, German and Spanish) and can apply the specific approaches that are used in each of them.

The course consists of lectures, group work and a final task, which are required to pass the course. The course is implemented in the different language departments and it can involve cooperation with the Gender Studies programme.
