The course studies current challenges and perspectives of cultural production and economy in ever changing technological environment. Simultaneously, the course places these questions into the peculiar political and socio-economic contexts of Russia. To grasp this two-fold transformation, this course brings together experts in Russian studies and cultural industries to examine how cultural industries reconfigure under digitalization and how they develop in Russia.
While the lectures concentrate on Russia as their case study, students will be invited to reflect on how digitalisation is affecting cultural industries in other countries, and how the (dis)similarities in these processes can be explained, throughout the duration of the course.
The course is suitable for all students interested in the changing field of Russian Studies at the intersection of the cultural and creative industries and digitalisation.
