Established at the beginning of 2011, the School of Communication, Media and Theatre (CMT) subsumes the subjects formerly included under journalism and mass communication, theatre work, speech communication and theatre and drama research, which have in common the research of reality and mounting performances from that reality, the public nature of the potential professions and the artistic dimension inherent therein, the connection to society and the important of comprehending communication from the perspective of significance:  as images, words and stories.

The School of Communication, Media and Theatre also includes COMET, the research centre for journalism, communication and media and the Centre for Practice and Research in Theatre, T7. The Dean of the School is Dr Heikki Hellman.
