This multidisciplinary seminar and a PhD course on African Diaspora Studies, organized at the University of Tampere by the Institute for Advanced Social Research and the School of Social Sciences and Humanities, lasts from October 2014 to May 2015.
The course is open for PhD students and researchers - also from other Finnish universities and research institutes - whose research projects focus on questions related to African diasporas and who want to increase their knowledge of the multidisciplinary field of African/Black Diaspora Studies. Information about the seminar meetings and papers to be discussed during the seminar (chapters and articles written by the participants of the seminars as well as new publications in the field of African/Black Diaspora Studies) will be sent through the AfDiFi (African Diaspora in Finland –researchers’) –mailing list.

The date and the place for the first meeting in October will be announced later for those who have expressed their interest in the seminar / PhD course before the end of September. A new seminar for PhD-students and advanced students from any discipline, interested in social theory broadly conceived. During fall 2014 we will be reading Michel Foucault's lectures on the birth of biopolitics (La naissance de la biopolitique). The text will be available via moodle for registered participants.

The first meeting is 24.9 (Pinni B3109), after that we meet 1.10. (chapters 1 & 2) (Pinni B3109) and then every second week (Pinni B3117), reading two chapters of the text for each meeting. Should be fun.
