this teaching schedule. Advanced courses in Computer Science (previously with code TKOPS,
now with TIETS) can also be found under the title Master's Programme in Computer Science.

NOTE details concerning Ohjelmistoarkkitehtuurit and Logiikkaohjelmointi,
both only in Finnish are on the Ohjelmistokehityksen opetusohjelma (in Finnish).

General Studies in Master's Degree Programmes given in English

This one week orientation course is offered jointly for all international students (degree and exchange) at the beginning of the Autumn and Spring semesters. It is most important for you to take part in it.
On the first day of the Orientation, a session on how to fill in the registration papers is offered. During the week you will get information on studies and study practices as well as library, computer and other systems and services at the University of Tampere. You will also learn about Finnish customs and the history of the City of Tampere.  A bus tour around the city is also included.

The orientation offers a general overview to academic and study-related practices as well as to livelihood and social security of a degree student in Finland.

This module (54 hours) is two periods long and is online apart from individual teacher-student tutorials for discussion of the submitted thesis extract. The work consists of readings, group analysis tasks and thesis writing work. Students should take the module after their research proposal has been accepted by their programme and they are about to embark upon the writing of their thesis.

You can get 1, 3 or 5 ECTS by taking the course:

  • 1 ECTS: you need to attend at least 10 lectures (remember to mark your name on the list during the lecture).
  • 3 ECTS: you need to attend at least 10 lectures and pass the lecture-based exam.
  • 5 ECTS: you need to attend at least 10 lectures and pass the lecture-based exam, and pass the exam based on additional readings (literature for the exam will be confirmed later during the course)
