• Special issues in health of individuals and populations residing outside their home region
• Characteristics of travel and travellers in the world
• Impact of human mobility on transmission of pathogens, example of influenza: pandemic modelling, spread and containment
• Individual and institutional competences in transnational health care
• Transnational encounters in health care
• Impact of globalization on global medicines and vaccines production, global view to counterfeit drugs
This course can be replaced by (TERHOI5 Perhehoitotieteellisen tiedon syventäminen) course.

The course is based on recorded lectures given by a Dutch exchange researcher Marja Aartsen in spring term 2010. The course contains watching six recorded lectures opened for the students in Moodle and four workshop sessions where the core themes of the lectures will be discussed and assignments given to students unpacked .
The workshop sessions will be held on Thursdays at 12-14 o'clock on 6, 13 and 27 November and 11 December 2014. The venue will be announced later.

The course familiarizes students with the multidisciplinary field of Public Health and professions.
This course is organized with and as part of the course TERKANA3 Terveys ja yhteiskuntapolitiikka (5 ECTS) together with the Finnish students.

The students can include and optional work placement 0-10 ECTS in their studies. There are two options to do the work practicum, 5 ECTS and 10 ECTS. 5 ECTS equals 5-6 weeks work practicum and 10 ECTS 3 months (which is required for international Erasmus work placements).
The compulsory work practicum seminar will be held in period III. Note! The corresponding Finnish work practicum seminar TERKAN5 Harjoittelu is given in period I. MHS students can alternatively also attend this seminar.

Starting at the 16th of March (week 12).
Weeks 12-13: Reading the book, writing the learning diary/electronic exam. Working needed about 47 hrs. (1.75 ects.)
Week 14: Lectures and answering the questions in the Moodle. Working needed about 7 hrs. (0.25 ects.).
Weeks 15-20: Group+individual working. Live-meetings are recommendable for the group work. Further information given around the beginning of the course. Working needed about 80 hrs.
