General description

The course aims to provide students with such communication skills that help further dialogue in the work place when using English as a lingua franca. See:

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the students are expected to be able to
- use strategies to enhance dialogue and constructive communication at work
- understand and know how to overcome barriers to effective communication
- have knowledge and tools to reflect on and develop their own communication skills

Contents

To achieve the learning outcomes, students will
- acquaint themselves with the concept of dialogue
- analyse the role of language in the context of workplace communication
- practice strategies of sharing meaning through dialogue in a group
- develop strategies for dealing with conflict
- engage in a common workplace task (e.g. negotiating a strategy for an organization)
