Upon successful completion of the course unit, the student will be familiar with the different stages, parties, and roles in the translation process. They will also understand the principles of professional translation and will be able to apply those principles to simple exercises. Additionally, the student will be able to recognise the central stylistic features of English-language academic writing and implement those features in their writing.
Contents
The course unit explores the different stages of the translation process (e.g. commission, analysis of the source text, defining the target audience), as well as the parties and roles involved in the process (e.g. customer, translator, reader). During the course unit, the student will complete exercises and translation assignments that familiarise them with the translation process. Furthermore, the student will explore the central word-, sentence-, paragraph-, and text-level characteristics of English-language academic writing and complete related exercises.
