Osaamistavoitteet
During/upon completion of the courses offered under the thematic area of Understanding Conflicts and Violence in Global Society, the student:
- gains an understanding of the linkages and interrelationships between the causes of violent conflicts, the ways of preventing and resolving them and the varieties of peace.
- learns to examine and discuss the nature and significance of conflict as a part of human condition.
- gains ability to critically apply concepts, theories and methods used in the study of conflict and different forms of violence as well analyze political events, ideas, institutions and practices in the light of the theoretical and conceptual frames.
- is able to identify and understand the transnational dynamics of contemporary conflicts and their long-term consequences (e.g. environment degradation, migration and refugees, gendered inequalities).
- gains understanding how group identities and collective memories are a source of conflicts and learns ways to study and analyze them.
Sisältö
Students complete courses worth a minimum of 10 ECTS from a selection of courses within the thematic area of "Understanding Conflicts and Violence in Global Society". The courses vary yearly upon availability and they are announced in the teaching schedule.
