Learning outcomes

After completion of the course the student understands how leadership thinking and practices are embedded in the broader economic, social and political contexts and their changes. The student is able to critically analyse various approaches to leadership at the individual, organizational, national, regional and global levels. S/he understands and is able to apply the most recent research on leadership. During the course, the student develops an understanding of the importance of new conceptualizations of leadership.

Contents

Themes discussed during the course include the following: distinction between an individual leader-centricity and the broader phenomenon of leadership; history of leadership thinking and research; changes in ways of working and organizing work; pluralistic approaches to leadership; materiality and embodiment in leadership; forms of democratic leadership, conceptualizations of leadership in international relations and world politics.
