ENGA12 Dialogue Interpreting 5 ECTS

Keywords

Strategic themes: Internationalisation

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course unit, the student will be comfortable with the most common dialogue interpreting situations. The student will be able to identify the prerequisites for well-functioning dialogue interpreting and the role of the interpreter in those situations. The student will also understand the importance of preparing for an interpreting assignment, be able to analyse what they have heard, and produce clear and precise speech. In addition, the student will be familiar with memory functions from the interpreter’s perspective and will identify the main principles of the interpreter's note-taking techniques.

Contents

During the course unit, the student will practice the role of both the dialogue interpreter and the speaker being interpreted. The course unit explores the following aspects: preparing for an interpreting commission, interpreting tasks in class and (if possible) in the field, giving and utilising feedback, and reflecting on one’s own interpreting.
