Contents

Attendance in research seminars organized by TCuPS (Tampere Research Group for Cultural and Political Sociology) is an ideal option for students who wish to deepen and apply their knowledge in actual research work.
TCuPS is a multidisciplinary research group within the School of Social Sciences and Humanities at the University of Tampere. Within the group, questions of power and politics are approached from a cultural, constructionist and neoinstitutionalist perspective. This means that the phenomena studied are conceived as contingent historical creations, best made sense of by relating people?s actions and routine assumptions to the institutional context in which they live, for instance to the nation-state as a worldwide institution. The main focus is on epistemic governance of global change and the domestication of global trends to nation states and other local contexts. The group holds a weekly research seminar for researchers and PhD students working on or interested in themes and processes related to neoinstitutionalism, domestication, governance, globalization and transnational change. The seminar is multidisciplinary and open to researchers at any stage of their career.
Students attending the research seminar will get a holistic view of how to bring the core theories and frameworks introduced in the GTS programme into actual research practice. Each student attending the seminar is obliged to be present and actively participate in all discussions. In addition, each participating student is required to keep a learning diary on each seminar session. The duration of the research seminar is one academic semester and it gathers weekly for two hours.
