Learning outcomes

The student can perform independent research in computational big data analytics and can report the underlying theory of the chosen methods and the achieved results in an understandable fashion. The student can comprehend scientific areas of knowledge and can follow ongoing developments in the student's field. The student is able to present the topic of the pro gradu thesis and the produced analysis results to other students in an understandable manner during the seminar.

Contents

Performing scientific research, writing a thesis, and presenting research results in computational big data analytics. Participating in seminar. Being familiar with the ethical norms of the field and applying these in the thesis. The seminar includes a 2-hour teaching in information acquisition skills organized by the library.

The thesis topic has been formed into a meaningful whole, and most of the source literature has been determined. A plan on the progress, objectives and schedule of the work has been drawn up with the supervisor (supervision plan form). An essay in the major subject has been completed and approved.

The thesis has been submitted for review, the maturity test has been completed and the thesis has been checked with the plagiarism detection system. All components have been completed and the work has been approved.

The originality of thesis will be checked before evaluation using the plagiarism detection system.

The supervisor approves the components (option 2 in Modes of study). The completion criteria for components can be specified or described in more detail, if necessary, based on the supervisor’s decision and the structure and the form of the thesis (supervision plan form). Evaluation and approval is decided in accordance with the regulations on degrees.
