Upon successful completion of the course unit, the student will have a thorough understanding of a particular area of their own choice either in translation studies or other studies connected to it, and will be able to acquire further information on this area. The student will also have the ability to apply this information in developing their expertise and working on their own Master's Thesis.
Contents
The course unit contains guest lectures selected by the student, Studia Generalia lectures, dissertations, seminars, or other events organised within the School of Language, Translation, and Literary Studies or elsewhere at the University of Tampere. The student will write a learning diary on based on these lectures and events. In order to receive 5 ECTS for the course unit, the student is required to attend 15 lectures and write a lecture diary or a learning diary on these lectures. Alternatively, the student can also read related literature and write a 15–20 page essay on a topic of their personal interest. The student can also complete the course unit by giving lectures or other presentations related to translation studies. To discuss the alternative ways of completing the course unit, the student has to consult on a case-by-case basis with either the professor responsible for the student's study track or with another person responsible for the student's field of specialisation.
