General description
The aim of the course is for students to develop their powers of expression in written English via the medium of creative writing and to understand how they can produce various responses in the reader.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, students are expected to be able to: - produce a body of original writing in English. - produce an analysis of their own writing in which they explain their objectives and how they achieved them. - learn how to review creative writing critically and to discuss their critical evaluations clearly. - develop their self-critical and self-editing skills.
Contents
To achieve the learning outcomes, students will - submit original writing, either prose, drama or poetry, to be workshopped during class sessions. Writing submitted in later sessions may relate to earlier submissions, or not. - engage in writing exercises in some class sessions. - produce a critique of their own writing that has been submitted to workshops.
In addition, students will be encouraged to publish a selection of their work from the course online.
