BTK4701 Stem Cells 3 ECTS

General description

Students will learn which are the different sources and types of stem cells including embryonic, induced and adult stem cells; basics of stem cell biology and differentiation methods; stem cells in neural, cardiac, mesenchymal, hematopoietic, endodermal and ophthalmic applications.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course student can define different types and sources of stem cells. Student knows theoretical basics of stem cell biology and stem cell culture and differentiation methods. In addition student can describe how plasticity of cells can be utilized to manipulate the functions of cells and how stem cells can be used in different fields of research, in tissue engineering and in regenerative medicine.
