Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course unit, the student will become familiar with the central approaches of semantics, pragmatics, and discourse analysis. In addition, the student will be able to apply these approaches in analysing authentic English-language text and speech.

Contents

The course unit explores the different approaches to studying the meanings and functions of language: semantics, pragmatics, and discourse analysis. By completing practical exercises, the student will become familiar with the basic concepts of these linguistic approaches and how they are applied to the English language.
