General description

The course introduces various disciplines and contemporary issues of public and international health

Learning outcomes

After the successful completion of the course, the students will
- be familiar with the multidisciplinary field of public and international health.
- understand the historic, economic and cultural context of public and international health, the key concepts used in these disciplines, and various approaches to assess and describe population health.
- know the basics of the distribution of and trends in health and health promotion on global, regional and national levels.

Contents

- History, development and key concepts in public and international health
- Contemporary issues in various disciplines in public health (e.g. mental health, socioeconomic disparities, aging, work and health, life-style, demographic changes) and in international health
- Introduction to health systems and their financing
- Major initiatives to improve population health at national and international level
- Health assessment and indicators used in public and international health
