Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course unit, the student will be able to understand and compare the concepts of illness and health in the context of Finnish and Russian healthcare. The student will be familiar with the healthcare systems and their conventions in both countries and will be able to compare them. The student will be able to use this knowledge in multilingual communication.

Contents

The course unit explores the concepts of illness and health as well as the perceptions and meanings attached to them. In addition, the course unit covers the differences between Russians and Finns as patients. Furthermore, the course unit provides an introduction to the Russian healthcare system and its practices and compares the Russian and Finnish healthcare systems and their institutional differences.
