Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course unit, the student will have an understanding of the basics of rhetoric and argumentation from the interpreter's perspective. They will be able to perceive speech structures typical to the cultures of their working languages. The student will be able to identify etiquette rules in communication situations and understand their significance in the interpreter's work. They will know how to perform in different interpreting situations and produce speech appropriate for the situation. In addition, they will be able to perform in a convincing and natural manner, and master their use of voice.

Contents

The course unit explores rhetoric and speech analysis (contrastive), interpreter's etiquette knowledge, and interpreter's use of voice. The course unit aims at enhancing the student's speech and performance skills from the interpreter's perspective.
