MIH-G05 Reproductive Health and Gender Issues from a Global Perspective 2–6 ECTS

Learning outcomes

The course provides students with knowledge on the main aspects of sexual and reproductive health and reproductive health research and overview of the history and current status of the sexual and reproductive health and rights from a global perspective. It demonstrates some of the socio-cultural, political and ethical issues surrounding sexual and reproductive health.

• Introduction to sexual and reproductive health
• Health services in reproduction
• Chronic diseases related to reproductive health
• Research methodologies in sexual and reproductive health
• National and international strategies of sexual and reproductive health promotion
• Sexual and reproductive health from global perspective, selected issues: Maternal mortality and morbidity, abortion and the problem of unsafe abortion, family planning, infertility, adolescent sexual health, sexually transmitted infections, HIV/AIDS and HIV prevention, stigma and discrimination, gender based violence, harmful practices, male involvement in reproductive health

• Gender issues and women’s empowerment

Further information

Attendance is open for all University of Tampere students but limited to 32 students. Preference is given to degree students in health sciences and others will be accepted in the order of registration. Degree students are required to take the complete course (6 ECTS).

Also available: Lectures in Reproductive health and gender issues, 2 ECTS. Unlimited attendance.
