Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course unit, the student will be able to recognise regional, social, stylistic, and situational variation in English. In addition, they will be able to analyse and illustrate this variation, focusing on examples derived from modern language.

Contents

The course unit explores regional, social, stylistic, and situational language variation and its causes, both theoretically and by analysing authentic language samples. During the course, the student will write an essay on an agreed topic. The essay will focus on a linguistic phenomenon and its variation in the material under study.
