General description

During the course, participants will explore and practice planning, teaching and assessment activities in the light of the model of constructive alignment. They will also engage in practical developmental activities and thereby participate in enhancing the quality of teaching in their own academic environments.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course participants are expected to
- recognize the importance of learning objectives and assessment in teaching and curriculum design
- understand the idea of constructive alignment in teaching and be able to apply the idea in their own practice
- be able to support learning activities in flexible ways in various contexts of academic teaching

The course is personnel training for the teaching staff, but may include other staff representatives as well as post-graduate students.

Teaching methods

The course is based on working in multidisciplinary groups, thereby creating a peer network across units. The course consists of lectures, readings, study circles, and writing assignments. A virtual learning environment is used.

The course is based on group process and therefore it is necessary that the participants commit to active participation.

Evaluation and evaluation criteria

Pass/fail.
Assessment of learning is carried out via various tasks during the course, as well as a practical developmental task, completed towards the end of the course. The assessment focuses on how the teacher recognizes and explicates his or her problem-solving activities in the developmental task and evaluates his or her own learning during the course.
