Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the doctoral student understands the basic principles of analysing quantitative data and is able to take a critical, competent and thorough look at the data s/he needs for the thesis so that her/his research can produce new, reliable and valid scientific knowledge. S/he knows how to pay attention to the critical points in the analysis. S/he knows how to interpret and report the results of the analysis in ways that are appropriate in the field of science in question. S/he is able to use the analysis methods s/he has learned and is capable of independent study to learn more about their characteristics and the ways in which they can be utilised. The doctoral student is able to report her/his analysis process and is able to investigate and illustrate the different phases of the analysis.
Contents
Several different courses can be organised under this heading. The courses look at the analysis methods and software for analysing quantitative research data. The doctoral student learns about the characteristics of the methods and how they can be used. S/he also gets to practice applying the methods. The doctoral student is usually supervised in the application of the methods to her/his own research and has the opportunity to experiment with the methods during the course.
