General description

In order to attain a Master's degree, a student must complete a Master's thesis and the related maturity test in their own subject. A Master?s thesis is a dissertation in which a student indicates his/her readiness for scientific thought, command of the necessary research methods, familiarity with the subject matter of the thesis and an ability to carry out scientific communication in their own field of study. A Master's thesis is based on supervised experimental or computational research from which a written report is drawn up, containing the abstract (in Finnish or Swedish, and in English), an introduction, a literature review, the materials and methods, the results, discussion about the findings and the conclusions.

Learning outcomes

After completing the Master's thesis, the student can:
- apply skills from the area of specialization to solve demanding problems of biomedical research.
- study scientific literature to obtain in-depth understanding on a well-defined area in field of specialization related to the problem at hand.
- evaluate critically the relevant methods in terms of their applicability in the context of the thesis.
- communicate the results of independent work both orally and in writing in clear scientific manner.
