Peace and Conflict Research
Learning outcomes
During/upon completion of the courses offered under the thematic area of Practices of Peace, the student:
- is familiarized with the idea and meaning of "peace" and its historical development.
- is cognizant of the key concepts and terms related to international and global conflict transformation and resolution, peacekeeping, peacebuilding, mediation, human rights, and responsibility to protect.
- learns what is peace building in theory and in practice and is able to critically reflect the dominant models of peacebuilding.
- is aware of the various mediation models and practices.
- understands the tools available for peaceful third parties and is able reflect their limitations.
- is familiar with the notion of conflict prevention.
- understands the long-term conflict transformation processes (etc. reconciliation, transitional justice, memory work) that support returning to peace.
- is familiar with the core issues related to gender.
- is able to reflect the limits of the Western approaches to conflict resolution and peacebuilding and recognizes non-Western alternatives to them.
Contents
Students complete courses worth a minimum of 10 ECTS from a selection of courses within the thematic area of "Practices of Peace". The courses vary yearly upon availability and they are announced in the teaching schedule.
