General description

The course aims to provide the student with the competencies to write a well-structured and stylistically appropriate research article in English with a view to eventual publication. This course is for students who have already completed the Introduction to Academic English course or have completed corresponding studies.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, students are expected to be able to
• write a literature review
• employ formal academic style (grammar and vocabulary)
• express their own voice in their writing
• use various cohesive devices to improve the flow of their text
• identify the elements of a well-constructed research paper in their own field

Contents

To achieve the learning outcomes, students will
- analyse the typical structure and linguistic features of research articles in their own field,
- give and receive constructive feedback on their writing and revise it accordingly
- participate in writing exercises enhancing critical thinking and reading

The course is fully online in Moodle and entails an average of 54 hours of work.
