Learning outcomes

The student will have an overview of the different genres of music as well as folk and popular dance forms in Finland. He/she will have knowledge of the processes of music and dance through which Finnishness has been and is being interpreted and constructed.

Contents

Introductory lectures by different lecturers present Finnish music and folk/popular dance from various points of view. The course may also include practical workshops. To complete 5 credits, the student will write an essay on a topic of his/her choice using literature appropriate for the topic, e.g. some of the below. The lecturers will provide suggestions for additional literature during the course.
