The course discusses how globalisation and global phenomena influence health and wellbeing of people in the world, a country and a community.

Osaamistavoitteet

After successful completion of the course, the students will
- have engaged themselves in an intensive mental process of building a strong personal view on importance of global phenomena and politics in health and on responsibility of health leaders in advocating and working for health across disciplinary and sectoral boundaries
- have skills to critically assess information related to politics and global phenomena vis-a-vis health
- appreciate the need and responsibility to respond to global challenges in international, regional, national or local contexts
- have basic competencies to advice on and formulate effective responses to global challenges influencing health.

Sisältö

This course unveils what global health is, the roles of global health and international health, and how globalization influences health and the wellbeing of populations. The course introduces Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) reflecting political determinants of health. This course addresses neoliberalism and its influence on the health of populations in the world. There are discussions and analysis of global governance, both global and national players, and their roles influencing in health.
