General description

The Faculty of Natural Sciences encourages degree students to take part of their studies abroad as exchange students. The studies abroad must be listed in the student's personal study plan and they must be transferred to the student's degree at the Faculty of Natural Sciences.

Learning outcomes

After taking these studies the student will
- know how to recognise and develop intercultural communication skills regarding his/her own learning and future career
- realise and understand his/her background and culture as a point of departure to meet, understand and appreciate other cultures
- understand the effects of multiculturalism in working life and society

Contents

The study unit can be taken by LUO degree students who go abroad for exchange studies using any University of Tampere exchange agreement.

For one term (minimum of 3 months) of exchange studies 2 ECTS credits are granted. For one academic year of exchange studies 4 ECTS credits are granted.

The student can finish the study unit by

1) taking exchange studies at a University of Tampere partner university (minimum of 3 months), and
2) submitting a travel report after return (minimum 2 pages, submitted to LUO and UTA International Office one month after return), and
3) submitting a learning diary after return (minimum 2 pages, submitted to LUO one month after return), and
4) submitting a certifying document from the host university one month after return

In a separate learning diary the student should assess the exchange period with regard to e.g.
- studies in his/her degree programme
- enhanced knowledge of a foreign culture and foreign language (latter if applicable)
- skills needed in working life and his/her employability
- his/her learning and development on the whole.
