Keywords

Strategic themes: Internationalisation

General description

Advanced course on structure and function of procaryotic and eukaryotic genomes including organels, and of DNA replication and repair and recobination.

Learning outcomes

Students will learn during the course to consider structure of the genes and genomes from both a functional and an evolutionary perspective. Discussions and tutorials are based on konowledge students have prepared home, and they learn design and preparation of a poster presentation about a given topic.

Contents

The course will cover prokaryotic and eukaryotic gene organization, conjugating and non-conjugating plasmids, repetitive DNA, centromeres, telomeres, transposable elements, organelle genomes and programmed DNA rearrangements as well as an introductory overview of molecular evolution and evolutionary genetics. DNA replication, recombination and repair will be considered both mechanistically and from a functional standpoint.
