Learning outcomes

Students should understand and be familiar with the different ways in which media is related to and conditioned by local political systems. They should also be able to conceptualize the relations between national and transnational communication structures and practices and understand some of the dynamics between new and traditional media.

Contents

The course offers theoretical models and tools for making sense of how journalism and media are situated in the current transnational conditions. More concretely, the course looks at the role of media in communicating transnational political structures and constructing transnational media events and crises, likewise in mediating global environmental problems.
