Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student is able to
-analyse Russia?s political system with the help of the dual state model
-identify the main political actors and explain their role in Russia?s political system
-outline the key objectives of post-Soviet Russia?s foreign policy and distinguish aspects of its continuity and change
-comprehend different interpretations of Russia?s role in contemporary international relations
-explain the main parameters of Russia?s economy and identify its strengths and weaknesses, in particular the role of energy, for its future development

Contents

The course presents Russia?s political system as the dual state model with the constitutional state and administrative regime. It also introduces the main actors in the legislative and executive power and civil society. Moreover, it provides an insight into the Russian foreign policy, including Russian's relations with Europe, and Russia's role in the contemporary international politics. Russia?s economy will be introduced with a particular focus on energy questions.

Possible topics include Russian political institutions, state, foreign policy, and role in contemporary international politics.
