Learning outcomes

After the successful completion of the course, the students will
• have a basic knowledge on topical global health issues, not covered in the thematic courses
• have better skills in seminar presentation
• understand discussions on topical global health themes
• be able to write an argumentative essay or a blog on a topical global health themes
• be exposed to the preparation of short documentary films on topical global health issues

Contents

• The topics to be covered will be selected during the first 1-3 seminar sessions, from issues that are topical or “hot” in global health at that point
• The topics will range from direct global health themes (such as new findings on the global burden of disease) to environmental, social, political or economic aspects of global health and its promotion
• Each student will select one topic, on which s/he will make an oral presentation, a written essay and a blog posting
• Additionally, groups of 4-6 students will prepare two short films on topical global health issues

•   Participation in the production of a short documentary film on a global health topic

 

Evaluation and evaluation criteria

Numeric 1-5.
Grade is given by the teacher responsible for the course based on the seminar presentation, the essay, and the blog (each given a weight of 1/3)
