Learning outcomes

The student understands why history of philosophy is a philosophical, not only a historical science. S/he knows historical formulations of central philosophical questions. S/he has notably an overview of classical questions concerning knowledge, ideas, truth, being, goodness, justice and beauty. S/he also knows different philosophical approaches such as empirism, rationalism, dialectics, or paragmatism. S/he understands the meaning and the specific use of classical sources in philosophy.

Contents

The history of philosophy section gives an overview of different periods of western history of philosophy (antiquity, middle ages, early modernism, rationalism, empirism, enlightenment, idealism, romanticism). It also presents the most important thinkers of each period. The section is completed by the section FILA3 Classics.
