Laboratory course focusing on recombinant DNA technology and protein research.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student is capable of:
-applying DNA mutagenesis methods
-producing, purifying and analyzing recombinant proteins
-understanding the entity consisting of production, purification and manipulation of proteins
-applying these methods in research and development

Contents

During the laboratory course we prepare recombinant DNA plasmids encoding for recombinant proteins and their mutants. We produce the proteins in E. coli, purify them using affinity chromatography, and analyze the proteins using electrophoresis and Western blot.
