Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course unit, the student will have a thorough understanding of the field of technical translation and its specific characteristics and methods. The student will be able to translate texts in the field of technology from Finnish into German and justify their translation solutions. The student will also understand the role that terminology, fixed phrases, and the conventions of different text genres play in technical translation. The student will be able to search for terms and phrases and assess their suitability in a particular context.

Contents

The course unit explores the main areas of industry and technology in which Finland and German-speaking countries have mutual trade relations as well as the central text genres, communicational situations, actors, and information sources of technical translation. The course unit also includes analysing, translating, and commenting on texts in the field of technical translation, actors, and information sources of technical translation. The course unit also includes analysing, translating, and justifying translation solutions for texts in the field of technical translation.
