General description

The course introduces various disciplines and contemporary issues of public health.

Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, the students will
- be familiar with the multidisciplinary field of public health
- understand the historic, economic and cultural context of public health
- will master the key concepts used, and comprehend the various approaches to assess and describe population health
- know the basics of the distribution of and trends in health and health promotion on global, regional and national levels

Contents

This course unveils the multidisciplinary field of public health. During the course students meet the professors who walk them through an overview of the historic, economic and cultural contexts of public health, as well as the key concepts used in their disciplines. The course addresses the various approaches to assessing distribution and trends in health and health promotion. There are discussions of the issues raised in a multicultural context of students from various backgrounds and viewpoints.
